Hiut Denim Co. – Welsh Raw Denim Revival

What do you do when the jeans factory responsible for employing people in your small town packs up and leaves you behind? You start your own denim label and factory, of course! That’s the story behind Hiut Denim Co.

Based in the Welsh town of Cardigan, Hiut makes good use of more than 30 years of local jean-making experience. Operating under the creed of “Do One Thing Well”, their entire team is wholly dedicated to the production of damn good jeans.

Their website offers plenty evidence of their beliefs, including a posting of the statement of intent they wrote to their investors, which is well worth a read.

As for their products, they focus entirely on quality jeans. Customers have the option of two kinds of raw denim: 12oz Turkish Organic Cotton, or 14oz Japanese Selvedge from the Kuroki Mills. Next up, the customer gets to choose their particular fit: Regular Straight or Slim Straight.

Customers are given the choice.

Two classic fits.

Another interesting aspect of Hiut’s jeans is their idea of the History Tag. Basically, each pair of jeans comes with a unique registration number. With this number, you can log onto their website and post updates about your individual pair and keep up with other Hiut owners.

Needless to say, Hiut Denim Co. is bringing the raw denim in the UK back to its roots, and its doing so in all the right ways.
