Denim Documentary: “Blue Jeans – The Fabric of Freedom”

No other garment personifies freedom more than denim blue jeans…what’s old is new again.

-Serena Altschul, Blue Jeans – The Fabric of Freedom

It might be an outlandish statement to make, but indeed some truth lies within this claim. Although much of the buzz surrounding raw denim is the authentic look, feel, and gradual fades attained, the sheer breadth and historic value of the material is beyond explanation.

Well, not entirely. Initially found on the blog belonging to the good folks at Tenue de Nîmes, CBS recently put together a short documentary on the subject.

They touch on the humble beginnings of raw denim as workwear, cultural prevalence, and feature some of the more well known denim labels and mavens; such as Roy Slaper (Roy), Kiya Babzani (Self Edge), and Imogene + Willie.

Unfortunately there is no option to directly embed the video here, so you will need to hop over to Youtube to view.

Stay Raw!
