What better way to ring in the new year with a pair of Old Blue‘s? It’s the very first Fade Friday of 2016 and for those of you “committing” to resolutions, use this faded and frayed pair as your motivation. Worn by Hanif Tri Maulana, this isn’t his first rodeo. He first reached Fade Friday greatness with another pair of Old Blue Co.’s, the 23 oz. heavyweights appropriately named The Beast. This time, he’s back to show us again how it’s done.

On top of living in Indonesia, he stays ahead of the fade curve as a miner, traversing through different mines trading indigo for some seriously sick fades along the way. Just shy of a full year’s wear, they’ve only trace amounts of indigo left in them. And no, the denim is not a tinted weft. Thanks to his occupation, he’s developed a dirty fade that’s worthy of envy.

As for the fades themselves, the whiskers and honeycombs are contrasty and super thick thanks to the 19 oz. denim. The loomstate fabric also has revealed a flatter, matte finish that’s full of texture and hue variation. With a hard labor job like Maulana’s, hard fades are the result. It’s a surprise that the dangling rear pocket is the only apparent damage this pair has sustained.

Here’s to the new year!
