Paneled Caps – Five Plus One

Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.

We’re halfway through Spring, and if you haven’t upgraded your hat-game this season we’re here to help. It’s doesn’t get much better than a simple, paneled cap — they’re classic, functional, and can go with a range of styles.

No two caps are alike, so join us as we explore some of the many hats on the market.

1) Rogue Territory: 5-Panel Cap in Indigo Selvedge Canvas

It’s getting too warm for jeans and you can’t really wear the same denim shirt everyday [unless you regularly read this site -Ed], so how can you continue to get your fades?! You get an indigo hat, of course. Rogue Territory has been kind enough to produce some hats from their popular indigo selvedge canvas, which they have previously used for jeans and chinos. It’s fading properties are fantastic, so you’ll certainly be happy with how this hate ages over time. It’s constructed with five panels and a snap-back closure.

Available for $75CAD from North American Quality Proveyors.

2) Reigning Champ: 6-Panel Cap in Heather Grey

Reigning Champ is best known for their heavyweight sweatshirts, but this time around they’re are producing a 6-Panel Cap from one of their famous fabrics. It features six panels, satin brim seam, a leather adjustment strap, and overlocked ventilation holes. Like all of RC’s products, their hats are made in Canada.

Available for $65 from Blueowl.

3) Norse Projects: 6-Panel Cap in Brown Faux Suede

I’m not normally a fan of faux-suede, but it looks fantastic on Norse Projects’ 6-Panel Caps. Available in three colors, Dried Olive, Black and Ecru, each comes with tonal stitching and matching ventilation eyelets. They’re finished with an adjustable webbed strap, which helps to ensure a solid fit. These hats may be simple, but it’s a design that’s hard to beat.

Available for $65 from Need Supply.

4) Nanamica: 6-Panel Cap in Navy Wool

Nanamica’s 6-Panel Cap is a bit ahead of the competition — it features a wool flannel outer with a soft, netted inner lining. Most caps are constructed with adjustable back strap, but this one features elasticated back panels. This may seem like a minor detail (or even an unnecessary complication) but to this really sets this hat apart from the others on this list.

Available for $65 from Gentry NYC.

5) The Hill-Side: 6-Panel Cap in Natural Canvas

hillside

The Hill-Side is most well known for their eye for fabrics. And when it comes to an article of clothing as simple as a paneled cap, fabric is everything. This 6-Panel Cap is made of a 10Oz. natural canvas fabric, which has some of the cotton seed fragments visible throughout. It comes with brass ventilation eyelets and no size adjustment of any kind. One size does not fit all, but this hat’s silhouette is far better than some of its competition because of it.

Available for $78 from Unionmade Goods.

Plus One – Bedwin: 6-Panel “Davey” Cap in Olive Canvas

It’s a bit hard to create a unique paneled cap, but Bedwin has achieved just that. Their Davey 6-Panel Cap features a rolled-brim with a snap closure, vented back panels, and a canvas adjustment strap. While a very divisive look, this hat certainly has a place in anyone’s headwear rotation.

Available for $140CAD from Haven Shop.
