The raw denim scene has moved further into the heavyweight division in recent years, with many brands producing their popular cuts in the range of 21 – 24oz denim. Naked & Famous, never to be outdone, was on the leading edge of this movement with their WeirdGuy cut in 24oz. selvedge, and the results are in.
Only 200 pairs of the limited edition 24oz. WeirdGuys were made, and we can understand why. Apparently, the construction of these jeans was a pretty stressful ordeal for the staff involved in the sewing. As N&F founder Brandon Svarc tells it:
The weight and rigidity of the denim is unprecedented and threw off the calibration of every machine. The in-house mechanic had to sit by each operation to fix or adjust each machine after every 2 or 3 pairs! Some of the sewing staff was actually brought to tears due to the tough and non-pliable fabric.
This week’s Fade Friday is the culmination of 2 years of wear on exactly those jeans. Submitted to us by Tyson from Twitter, these jeans have yet to be washed since they were released in January of 2010. Hopefully we’ll see an update on these once they finally get that wash. Thanks again to Tyson for sharing!
