Elhaus x NoKipple 01 – World’s First Heavyweight Handwoven Raw Jean

With so many brands and stores focusing on their own niches, it’s become pretty common to see collaborations among brands where they combine their specialities and create unique products that showcase what each brand does best. This time Elhaus, a denim brand using some unique fabrics that we featured a few months back, has partnered with a relatively new retailer, NoKipple, to create a prototype jean.

Despite serving as the collaboration’s first iteration, it already features some details that we haven’t seen before from any other brands. The Elhaus X NoKipple 01 is not yet sold in stores but the good folks at Hall of Fade recently got their lucky hands on a pair.

At first glance, the denim has a slightly different look with it’s more cobalt blue color rather than the darker standard indigo look that is fairly common. Up close, however, the denim really starts to distinguishes itself.

The fabric, which is provided by Elhaus, is a handwoven, 20 oz, synthetically dyed denim. It’s extremely rare to find any brands utilizing a handwoven fabric due to it being incredibly labor intensive and slow to produce. To provide some perspective on exactly how much work goes into handwoven denim, it takes a whole day to produce 1.5 yards of fabric while automated machines can produce hundreds of yards in the same time.

The payoff for using this slower process is that it gives the fabric a much more textured feel while remaining soft and instead of a uniform blue color, there are several shades of blue throughout the jean.

The rest of the jean boasts the same level of details with its copper rivets, nickel free buttons, chainstitched interior and hems, and great looking batik pocket bags. The sample looks like it is a straight fit but adjustments are still being made for the final production version. To get more of the nitty gritty details about the jean, visit Hall of Fade‘s full review.

While a price has not been announced yet, Elhaus and NoKipple have assured that they will be much lower than a pair of Momotaro Gold Label handwoven jeans which is priced around $2000.00 USD. Make sure to keep an eye for when these will hit retail stores as this may be one of the few chances to buy a handwoven jean.
