It’s well known that Japanese brands frequently cite heritage Americana as inspiration when it comes to their fashion. This trend definitely applies to the Tokyo-based brand Sunny Sports, where they are “strongly focusing on the concept of a playful and basic style that you can wear for years”.
Vintage American West Coast is the focus for the brand, and it’s reflected in their wares. With the newly released Sunny Sports 1965 8oz Denim Work Shirt in Dark Indigo, there is a comfortable piece that can be layered or worn on its own with the durability that the company holds strong to and customers love.
The 2013 Spring/Summer line for Sunny Sports is called “Memories of Summer, 1964”. With that in mind, the customer can see the laid-back surfer vibe the brand was reaching for. The 1965 8oz Denim Work Shirt is modelled after the popular vintage work shirt style, and is now offered in a dark indigo as opposed to the previous washed indigo version.
With a crisper and cleaner look than the lighter colored alternative, the same 8oz fabric is still thin enough for warmer weather. The fabric has also been washed to provide a soft feel and eliminate any worry of shrinkage.
Chambray lining on the back yoke and under the collar are highlights, as well as the triple needle chain stitch that is exposed on the interior and along the vents. The exposed threads are a bright orange, adding a pop of color that makes the shirt stand out from other offerings.
