Norman Porter NP02 Classic Fit: Just Released

For years now, the brothers behind the Philadelphia brand Norman Porter have been relentlessly working and taking on all sorts of labor intensive projects. Whether it’s hand-making their jeans and leather goods or taking on industrial level tasks like upholstering 100+ chairs for local businesses (check their Instagram account for some great behind the scenes photos), it’s all in the efforts of honing their craft and delivering goods that they’re proud of. The results have been impressive thus far and their jeans is a great representation of their skill and attention to detail.

While they’ve consistently released jeans in a variety of fabrics, up until now their only jean option was their NP01 cut which is a slim straight with a medium rise. Fortunately, the NP01 is a flattering fit that works well with many body types but Mike and Dave have always planned on creating a more classic fit jean and finally, they have released that as the second jean in their line up appropriately named the NP02.

The NP02 is best described as a traditional straight with a slightly higher rise than their NP01. While not completely based on the well-known Levi’s 501, the idea behind the NP02 seems to be centered around offering a Norman Porter jean that would appeal to someone looking for the wider leg and that sits higher on the hips.

As we showed last week in the time lapse video of Mike making a jean from start to finish, every pair of the NP02 is made in house by them. The jean currently features a 14 oz. selvedge denim from Cone Mills but they look to offer the jean in several different fabrics in the future. Other details include hickory stripe pocket bags, hand stamped leather patch, hand hammered rivets, blue tab indicating the NP02 cut, and leather patch on the fly showing the size.

To commemorate the launch of the new fit, Norman Porter partnered together with the denim and workwear history site, The Selvedge Yard, to come up with a limited special edition NP02. The TSY X Norman Porter NP02 switches out the hickory pocket bags with ones made from a 10 oz indigo chambray and uses a 14.5 oz Cone Mills selvedge denim.

Each leather patch is individually tattooed by Mike Siki of True Hand Society & Design in Philadelphia and combines the TSY lightning bolt logo with Norman Porter‘s snake logo. One of the more subtle but impressive details is the lightning bolt stitch on the side seam of the jean. The collaboration was limited to only 13 pairs and sold out immediately but enjoy the pictures and hopefully, we’ll see more collabs like this in the future.
