In the few years Strike Gold has been around, they’ve quickly garnered a reputation for creating clothes that are full of well thought out details, made with fabrics with a ton of character and every release has been met with positive responses from customers around the world. For the latest release, Strike Gold has put out their 51XX jeans that uses one of the most interesting denim we’ve seen being used.
Coming in both the 5105 (slim straight) and 5109 (slim tapered) fits, the 51XX uses a 15oz unsanforized indigo warp/gray weft selvedge denim made in Japan. What makes the denim so interesting is the use of an unusually short staple cotton for the weft yarns which results in a very irregular texture that is unlike most other slubby denim on the market.

For the jean industry, it’s often a challenge to introduce different and unique details but at the same time keep them subtle enough that they can be worn daily without becoming a gimmick. Strike Gold is one of those brands that consistently masters this balancing act. If the 11XX, 21XX, and 31XX denim is any indication of what the 51XX denim’s fading properties are going to be like, we’re definitely excited to see pictures as people wear them in the next several months and years.
Of course the details aren’t just limited to the denim itself. The 5105 and 5109 jeans feature a gold sparkle selvedge ID, deerskin leather patch, hidden rivets, back pocket arcuates, and button fly. As with the previous releases, the custom rivets are made from iron male piece and a copper female piece. The reason for the different materials for the rivets is so that even the rivets will show unique aging with wear; the male piece will rust as it ages while the female piece will darken and leaf.
The 51XX jeans are surely one of the more exciting releases this year and we’re looking forward to more from Strike Gold.
