San Francisco’s Jack/Knife Outfitters created a name for themselves several years back making bespoke denim that featured less common details such as western pockets and hand hammered leather backed rivets. About a year ago, they transitioned to also offer ready-to-wear clothing which they released in small batch collections that they named after chapters in a book.
Their first release was their “Prologue” that featured their Western Pocket Jeans, Cone Mills Flannel shirt, Oxford Shirt, and Hunting Vest which was met with enthusiasm from customers. As they gear up for the “Chapter One” collection, they’ve released another small collection named the Jack/Knife Limited Release Shop that consists of 4 naval inspired pieces.
Starting with a vintage styled bucket hat made from denim scraps leftover from their jean production, you can see Jack/Knife’s hallmarks in their garment construction. The hat is made using only single needle lockstitching as is with all of their products. Their short sleeve chambray shirt is made with a Japanese selvedge indigo chambray fabric and features indigo dyed wood buttons that should age with wear as well as a sunglass holster loop sewn next to the chest pocket.
The Duck Canvas Western jean is based on their denim Western Jean with a few changes like “U” shaped back pockets and the use of a tough duck canvas cloth from Mt. Vernon Mills which is known for providing heavy canvas cloth to much of the American workwear brands. Lastly, the indigo bandana is a simply designed bandana made from an indigo dyed broadcloth with a continuous stitch hand rolled hem and their logo hand-stamped onto it.
It’s always interesting to see what Jack/Knife will release next and if the “Prologue” and “Limited Edition” collections are any indication, there will be a lot to look forward to with “Chapter One“.
