Tellason has been going strong for about six years now, plenty of time for its customers to produce some nice fades and put the jeans to the test. We’ve featured a few pairs of Tellasons on Fade Friday in the past, and if you keep up with their social media accounts, you can see some seriously worked-over Cone Mills selvedge.
This particular jean is the Sheffield, a straight-tapered fit, featuring their brand-exclusive 16.5 ounce Cone Mills raw selvedge. It’s made with 22.4% indigo dye and low sulphur, so it tends to produce some higher-contrast fades.
We were lucky enough to get the run-down on a pair worn by co-founder Pete Searson. Not only does Pete trot the globe hawking his wares; he sports a pair of his own denim while doing so. He’s in the practice of giving his jeans everyday wear, and he’s not strict about washes–as you can see from the four washes in ten months. He’s fond of testing out new jeans, and so he hangs up his pairs and moves on to a new one every year or so.
This pair of Sheffields features a clear overall fade pattern, with super-pronounced fading on the left knee and some serious whiskers. There’s also a distinct fade on the rear left pocket (presumably created by Pete’s habit of carrying around buttered toast in his pocket). His pup is clearly digging the honeycombs–or waiting to eat that toast. You can also see the “legal-tab” fade on the right-back pocket.
