It’s not often we revisit a pair of jeans for a second update. Achieving Fade Friday status usually means taking denim to a point well past retirement. But there are a select few that keep going well beyond what most people would consider grail territory. This is one such pair.
We first met King Yu-Yiu at the Denim by PV tradeshow in May (it’s happening again next week), when his super contrasty heavyweight fades drew us like moths to the flame. He had worn them for nearly everyday for 15 months as his job designing for British high fashion label Vivienne Westwood took him all over the world.
His Lee fades were amazing–some of the best we’ve ever seen on any heavyweight jeans–but they were also dangerously close to a blowout. King, however, kept on trucking and has worn his Lee’s for another six months, taking his already amazing fades to the next level.
Yes, the crotch is mangled, yes, they probably don’t smell all that great, yes, the cuffs are about to fall off, but those honeycombs, that patina, the whiskers on whiskers! These are the fades you only get in the madman zone of fading. This is some amazing dedication, King, here’s to six months more!
