Okayama based jeans maker Kamikaze Attack are renowned for their numerous collaborations with brands like Tate + Yoko or Naked & Famous and their experiments with unorthodox fabric blends. Amongst the collaboration items they’ve produced are their Kinniku Man Jeans, first released in 2013.
In celebration of the 35th anniversary of Kinniku Man, the manga has collaborated with Kamikaze Attack for a second time to make a limited edition of about 300 pairs of jeans designed with the famous cartoon in mind.
Who is Kinniku Man?
There are a few mangas that Japanese people from absolutely any generation know: Detective Connan, Hokuto No Ken, Ultraman, Doraemon and more. Kinniku Man is part of this privileged group of timeless heroes.
Though he’s a character that deserves more than just a few lines, we’ll summarize Kinniku Man for our western readers by saying that he’s a funny, clumsy and goofy hero that landed in Japan because his dad, the king of an alien planet, threw him off his ship by mistake thinking he was a pig. Later on he learns where he came from and starts a quest to become the greatest of all superheroes, using amazing fighting skills and great heart to make his former enemies become friends with him.

Kinniku Man’s not necessarily the first hero you’d think to associate with your brand, but then again, Kamikaze Attack isn’t just any brand. With model names like Castration Weapons Kamikaze Ball Crusher of Hell, they’re willing to have a little bit of irreverent fun. And they were pretty honest with us when we asked them how this collaboration was born:
Our CEO, Norihiko Kanazawa, happened to know the sensei of the guy that created Kinnikuman. They became friends through that person and then a collaboration was born. Now that we think about it, it seems that our refusal to take ourselves seriously and Kinnikuman’s goofiness are a natural match!
