Fill up the tub with some nice warm water and head over to your local Self Edge for the latest from 3sixteen. Like the trusty ol’ 501 shrink-to-fit jeans our grandfathers swear by, 3sixteen’s SL-100xk and SL-120xk jeans require some careful calculation when finding your correct size.
Japanese for loomstate, their newly developed selvedge Kibata denim is unsinged, unmercerized, and unsanforized. It’s important to highlight that the fabric is not an unsanforized version of their signature 100x and 120x denim, but rather a completely new custom fabric created with Kuroki Mills.
The photos from our visit to NYC Market Week show just how much the texture and color varies within the fabric. Although the indigo warp yarns are the same, the weft yarns have been modified so that they could weave the fabric at a low tension. This is unlike many other unsanforized fabrics, such as the Levi’s STF, allowing for a lot of slub, character, and color inconsistencies as the denim fades.
Produced in raw indigo as well as their shadow selvedge, both Kibata fabrics are cut in their straight leg fit. You can pick up the SL-100xk and the SL-120xk at Self Edge for $230. Now ready the tub and get started on those fades!
