Fade Friday – Unknown Vintage Chore Jacket (60+ Years, Unknown Washes)

Denim is always better when it comes with a family history, and a little bit of mystery to boot. That’s what this week’s Fade Friday is all about. Reader Michael Rouech of Ann Arbor, Michigan, sent us photos of this mystery denim chore coat that was worn by his grandfather while working on a farm and is at least 60 years old.

Rouech’s father now wears the coat, mostly to haul wood. It’s also unknown how many times this chore coat has been washed, but what we do know is that it’s seen plenty of heavy use. It sports a gnarly hole and missing button, possibly snagged in some equipment along the way. The denim has faded to a light blue, but there’s plenty of roping and puckering throughout to give it character. This is a piece of denim history, and museum worthy in our eyes.
