Popeye Magazine Releases First Issue Reprint for 40th Anniversary

A big round of applause goes to Popeye Magazine, an iconic Japanese lifestyle periodical that’s celebrating its 40th anniversary with their July 2016 issue. Magazines with a thoughtful approach to menswear are few and far between, and Popeye itself has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the years.

But with the 2012 introduction of Editor-in-Chief, Takahiro Kinoshita, Popeye has found sure footing in recent issues. The publication looks to cover a variety of styles and designers (in addition to more general lifestyle coverage) without a particular focus on age or other specific demographic. Their philosophy – which we tend to agree with – is that the good stuff transcends such categories.

Their latest issue not only celebrates their fourth decade in print, but also takes a look back and includes a full re-print of their very first issue.

Team Popeye, keep eating your spinach, and we think you’ll stay strong for years to come.

Available for £25 (~$36USD and falling) at Superdenim.
