STORY mfg. SS17 “Best After” Lookbook

They’re big. They’re natural. They’re clothes from STORY mfg.‘s SS17 lookbook titled, “Best After”. With oversized fits and vintage-inspiration, the collection, as always, emphasizes a slow-made approach. This season’s collection gets its inspiration from an unlikely source – “bacteria, yeasts and all the microbes that dye our clothes, ferment our food, live in our guts and make our lives more positive.”

Wide wale corduroy makes a big appearance in this collection, which certainly complements the super relaxed unisex fits. You’ll see it in several jackets as well as a few overalls. It uses organic cotton dyed with indigo as well as tree bark and plant roots. Complementary to this, they also use lightweight fabrics woven using solar powered looms. Even more, fun embroidered pieces in the collection feature depictions of bacteria itself. Now amoebae aren’t the only single-celled organisms to break into the fashion world (see paisley).

The lookbook itself is very tongue-in-cheek with “stock images” depicting models chopping a lot of carrots, staring at mason jars filled with various liquids, and drinking what I can only assume are tall glasses of vodka. Non-intrusive stock lighting places an emphasis on the clothing, however, with a two-toned theme of indigo and orange.

It’s a playful contrast from their last lookbook, “Full English,” which was equally entertaining and my favorite one to date.

Expect the collection to drop not-soon-enough.
