Take everything you thought you knew about leather jackets and put it aside because Nine Lives is here to stir that pot vigorously with their latest Yak Hide & Sashiko Leather Jacket. This may be the first time you are hearing about Nine Lives, and most likely also the first piece you’ve seen made from yak, but we assure you neither will be the last.
The brand made waves at New York Market Week this past July, with an eye catching collection of unique pieces cut from leather, denim, and more, and their latest jacket blends a few of these worlds together in a way we have not seen before.
Yak leather is similar to horsehide in its look and soft feel, but actually has a stronger tensile strength meaning you can wear the hell out of it and not worry about it giving way anytime soon. The biggest head turner, however, are the hand-dyed indigo sashiko fabric gussets, adding the slightest bit of color and texture to this second-skin. Everyone knows that a high-end leather jacket is an investment, but when you make them like this it will surely be worth every penny.
