Fade of the Day – Sugar Cane Type III Black (8 Months, 3 Washes)

It’s time for Fade Of The Day, and we’re taking a break from indigo denim to appreciate this pair of Sugar Cane Type III Black jeans. They’ve been worn for just eight months by Mason Burke, of Nova Scotia, but activities such as motorcycling, camping, and skateboarding have made sure these jeans are on their way to being a fade-to-grey masterpiece.

There aren’t any crazy, defined fades here—we rarely see that from black denim. What we do have is plenty of color and texture, with the fabric developing chalky white tones as the dye breaks down. There’s also some strong puckering on the waistband, rise and back pockets, and some solid train tracks on the outseam.

Mason certainly doesn’t hold back when wearing his jeans, and he tells us this pair have even caught on fire somehow. Let’s hope some decent repairs can counteract the damage done and keep these black beauties going.
