Fade of the Day – Pure Blue Japan XX-012 (1.5 Years, 2 Washes, 1 Soak)

When we see a pair of Pure Blue Japan jeans in our fade inbox, we know we’re in for some slub and nep. This particular pair of PBJ XX-012s come to us from Michael De Luca, and after a year and a half of daily wear as a student in NYC, they fit the bill for this edition of Fade Of The Day.

If there’s one way that fades can look even more dope, it’s when they’re coming through a fabric like this, developing that snowy texture that only a super-neppy denim can produce. Two washes and one soak have been enough to help lighten up the once-pure indigo dye, but have kept those honeycombs just how we like ’em—stacked and defined. Subtle whiskers are emerging through the thighs as well, and the pocket fade is so hard it’s bust through the denim.

Living in the Big Apple means Michael is lucky enough to be able to hand these PBJs over to the good folks over at Self Edge whenever they need repairs, so all he needs to do now is carry on thrashing them until they’re ready for Fade Friday.
