Railcar Fine Goods Goes Green With Their Spikes X039 Jean, Blending Cotton and Hemp

When you’re working on fading a pair of jeans, there is no greater tragedy than a summer day that is simply too hot for denim. Different people have different tolerances for heat, but, when it comes to denim, I’m certainly a wimp.

Railcar Fine Goods, a denim brand that sets some of the industry standards for high-quality construction, has an answer to this problem: hemp. Their Spikes X039’s are made from a Japanese selvedge cotton/hemp blend that weighs in at 12oz., which means that they might be the perfect solution to your heat problem. And they’ll also keep you in denim all summer long.

The Spikes feature some impressive details, like triple-needle stitching — done on a single-needle machine — double-needle flat-felled inseams, and (playing on the hemp theme) green button-holes and pocket-bags. The icing on this denim cake is a special-edition veg-tan leather patch, with artwork that will patina along with the patch.

Who knew the answer to my summer denim woes was hemp? It makes jeans breathe better, but don’t even think about smoking these jeans. A cursory Google search leads me to believe that this kind of hemp won’t even get you buzzed.
