The leather patch on a pair of jeans can be an indicator of what to expect from the denim, so it’s only appropriate that this pair of ultra-heavy Companion Denim From Dusk Till Dawns feature two sumos duking it out on the waist patch. These well-faded 21 oz. beasts come to us from Iu Franquesa, the owner of the aforementioned Spanish denim brand.
Iu has been wearing these jeans as part of the Artisan Challenge—a division within the Denim World Championship. Selected denim artisans were invited to create a pair for the challenge, and then fade them to high-heaven over a two year period—exactly what Iu has done! Epic, double-indigo-style fades have come through in force, with each crease and stress point showing a striking, cobalt blue tone. The lap has seen some rugged dye loss, and the strong whiskering is matched by some super-crispy honeycombs that hold deeper indigo dye between the creases.
No repairs have been needed yet, but when the time comes, Iu will be able to repair them with ease. And although we’re seeing some outstanding stuff here, there’s still a lot of dye left in these Companions.
