Fade of the Day – Rye 51 Silo Selvedge (1.5 Years, 3 Washes)

Today’s Fade Of The Day features a first-time brand to our fades section, Rye 51, and this pair is owned by Atlanta’s Ben Christopher. Ben manages and bartends at a rock club in the area and all that hard-wearing abuse has allowed him to store a photo album’s worth of stories within the denim of his Rye 51 Silo Selvedge jeans.

First and foremost, his denim shows just how much a bartender needs their tools of the trade at the ready and on their person, as the level of distressing at all pockets suggests he’s jamming implements in and fishing them out constantly. His go-to tool has to be his trusty folding knife, which has a serious outline fade on one front pocket, again in a rear pocket and has undoubtedly contributed to general fading and wear in the others.

There are plenty of nice looking punctures and tears too, which have been given some patching and mending by Ponce Denim Co. Looking to the rest of the jean, we see a lot of indigo retention with some nicely stretched-out honeycombs at the back knee. And even with quite a bit of abuse, there’s plenty of life left in these jeans, perfect for leisure-time rides on his motorcycle, excursions into the woods, and chasing his two kids around the foothills of the Appalachians.
