From the folks that know the hiking trails like the back of their hand, Danner‘s been setting (and raising) the standard for hiking boots for decades. Their boots have been the go-to for experienced enthusiasts and casual hikers alike, and their Portland Select series maintains their Made in USA spirit with each boot crafted in their Portland factory.

Whether your idea of a hike is the gruelling Snowman Trek in Bhutan or just getting all the way uptown, Danner’s got a boot for every trail.

Here’s a breakdown of Danner’s Portland Select line.

Mountain Light

The most popular of hiking boots, the Mountain Light has traversed the harshest terrain since their introduction in 1979. It’s a full-grain, all-leather, one-piece upper that’s immediately recognizable as the brand’s flagship boot. Proper hikers agree that it’s the benchmark. Available in six colors from $360-$380.

Mountain Pass

A trim here, a snip there, and you’ve got the Mountain Pass, the lighter-weight sibling of the Mountain Light. With an updated construction method that integrates the shank, midsole and lasting board into a single piece, as well as a slimmed down Vibram sole, it’s 25% lighter than the Mountain Light. For the hiker who’s walking about town and on light hikes, it’s the ideal option when the trails aren’t as arduous. Available in four colors from $350-360.

Danner Light

With an extra inch in height, the Danner Light keeps your ankles where they should be. Denier nylon panels cut down on weight while maintaining integrity, and the Gore-Tex lining makes sure water doesn’t find its way through.  Whatever terrain you may or may not be trekking, this boot is on standby for anything. Available in eight colors for $380.

Danner Ridge

All the same qualities of the Danner Light in a package that’s a full 15oz. lighter, the Danner Ridge is made for mild hikes and city streets that probably don’t require you to haul any serious gear. Signature stitchdown construction, full-grain leather and waxed canvas upper, and an all-in-one shank/midsole/lasting board, the Danner Ridge is a well-rounded pair that’s ready for most situations you might find yourself in. Available in two colors for $360.

Forest Heights

Making your way upstream against hordes of people, across dozens of city blocks is a feat in itself. For that, the Forest Heights boots can get you to the other side of your concrete jungle with the low-profile Vibram 232 outsole while the unlined leather upper will help keep your feet cool along the way. Available in two colors for $290.
