Fade of the Day – Gap Japanese Selvedge (2 Years, 5 Washes, 2 Soaks)

Mind the Gap: selvedge jeans, that is. Known more as a wallet-friendly outpost, they still make some special and intriguing pieces every once in awhile. Take, for example, Christopher Kearney’s Gap Raw Japanese Selvedge Jeans.

With a solid nine months of daily wear before receiving even a single soak, this pair took a beating. Exhibit A is that nasty (in a good way) crotch blow out and subsequent mending. And instead of detracting from the vibe, the mending in the crotch (as well as other areas such as back pockets and cuffs) isn’t done to hide the damage, but to properly glorify it.

There’s plenty of indigo leaching in the thigh, knee, and seat, with defined whiskers and honeycombs to boot. But we’re partial to those wallet and cell phone fades—now er know where to go to pickpocket Chris when we’re around his way in Pennsylvania!
