Fade of the Day – Red Wing 875 (~4 Years, Unknown Cleanings)

A true classic never goes out of style, as is true with a well worn pair of Red Wings. Today’s Fade of the Day are a pair of Red Wing 875s with the Oro-iginal leather worn for almost five years by Ryan Hammond of Tuscon, Arizona.

Ryan has had these boots since 2013 and has worn them working in the office, doing yard work, and hiking to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite. They have nice patina in the toes and all around the base of the boot above where the soles begin and there is evidence of friction and wear in the ankles where his jeans or pants would overlap.

The boots have been re-soled with a true Vibram Cristy in early 2017 by Red Wing. Ryan oils them often due to the arid Arizona climate, and he tries to give them a good washing with leather soap every 6 months or so, but despite his efforts the inside of the left toe has a major crack. He packed it with Obenauf’s to slow the damage, but the boots’ days are likely numbered. Make ’em count, Ryan!
