Winter is here, and if you live anywhere that actually has a Certified Winter™ (i.e., the entire Northern half of the United States), you should probably be thinking about what’s gonna be on your feet. To be honest, you should’ve already been thinking at this point, but if you haven’t, Thursday’s Vanguard boots are a surefooted selection.

Made with the same family that developed the Wolverine 1000 Mile Boot, and on the same factory lines alongside brands like Red Wing, the Vanguard line is handcrafted from start to finish in the USA. As for the uppers, those are made with Chromexcel and full-grain leather from the prestigious tanneries such as Horween. Hefty and ready for patina, they’ll outlast you and look better every step of the way. And when the roads are slippery, you’ll need something that can take the beating—but with a variety of lugged Vibram soles and studded rubber outsoles, slick pavement won’t bring you down. (Can’t say the same for the gloomy weather, though.)

Aside from grip, with that rubber protection, water won’t impregnate your soles, which is good unless you’re a weirdo who likes wet socks. Once these bad boys finally give in, you can have them resoled, thanks to a trusty Goodyear welted construction.

For the non-weirdos among us who enjoy a comfortable shoe, these are fully lined with a supple glove leather, and though I don’t recommend it, you could totally go barefoot and that lining would feel amazing. Ensuring a custom fit, Thursday also makes these boots with either a shock absorbing Poron insole or cork midsole, which will mold to your feet.

All of that goodness, and a Betsy Ross-approved Made in USA attribute, for $249? Well-played, Thursday. You can find them on the Thursday website.
