Fade of the Day – Red Wing 877 (~9 Years)

Who said heritage-wear has to be expensive? For today’s Fade of the Day, we’ve got a pair of Red Wing 8-Inch Classic Moc Toe Style No.877’s that were purchased on eBay for $50, taken to the cobbler for a revamp for another $20, and worn for several years after that up until the present. You have to respect reader Kyle’s ingenuity and give him props for getting well beyond what he paid in terms of his return on investment.

These Red Wings were manufactured in May of 2008, and 10 years, a change in hands, some conditioner love and a new Vibram sole later, they’re still stomping around.

As far as patina goes, the foot portion and the ankles are telling two vastly different stories. Looking at the leather at the top of the ankle and then casually scanning down to the toes is like watching a time lapse of a hurricane, from the pristine down to the ravaged. And yet, they’re still in great shape and have tons of life left—but what else would you expect from Red Wing?
