It’s rare that we feature Cone Mills denim in any other form than jeans, but in this installment of Fade of the Day we’re rectifying that with this Otis James Thumper Hat. Robert Bland of North Carolina sent us this cap, which Otis made for him out of blue-and-true Cone Mills selvedge denim.
Robert suspects the weight of this hat’s denim is somewhere between 10 and 12 ounces. Despite having other hats by Otis, Robert explains this is by far his favorite and most heavily-used. As you would expect from Cone Mills, the denim is fading gracefully with no shortage of character. The pops of near white mix with the texture of the denim, creating cascading patina from the top button to the brim. Comparing the darker interior with the lighter exterior leads us to believe this cap has a lot of fade potential left.
