Fade of the Day – Momotaro 0605-18 (13 Months, 2 Washes, 1 Soak)

What do you get when you combine a denim enthusiast from Russia, cotton from Zimbabwe, and jeans made in Japan? Besides improving international relations, you get today’s Fade of the Day! Vitaliy of Saint Petersburg, Russia sent in his Momotaro 0605-18s, worn for just over a year and starting to show some impressive fades.

Zimbabwean cotton is much loved for its slubbiness, and its ability to produce vibrant fades. Vitaliy tells us that the once-heavy 18 oz. denim has lost its rigidity and has become incredibly soft with age. He hand soaked them every few months, culminating with a wash at the 10-month mark, which helped to highlight the burgeoning fades; especially the whiskers in the lap and small pops of white in the seat. Some honeycombs are starting to peek out and the texture is already highly visible, all they need is more wear and time to achieve their full potential.
