Fade of the Day – Edwin ED-55 (14 Months, 1 Wash)

Today’s Fade of the Day comes from across the pond in Aberdeen, Scotland. Simon Gray’s Edwin ED-55 Nihon Menpu Limited Edition denim were worn every day for over a year. The first six months of wear happened underneath coveralls for 12-hour shifts at Simon’s work and the heavier, unprotected wear was done on weekends. A hole soon emerged in the crotch, which meant Simon could only wear them on weekends.

Thanks to the protection from coveralls and the early retirement to weekends, a great deal of indigo has remained. Because of the indigo retention, the whiskering and honeycombing contrast heavily with the surrounding dark indigo. Some loose stacking has taken shape and the knees and seat are beginning to show pops of white. Despite the hole in the crotch, no repairs have been undertaken, but if a little preemptive care is taken, there’s plenty of life left in these Edwins.
