Fade of the Day – Self-Made Draftsman (~2 Years, Unknown Washes)

Here’s something we guarantee you’ve never seen before. This self-made Draftsman jean was sent in by LA designer Colin Ryan, a pair of jeans he himself made out of raw Cone Mills (RIP) denim. We appreciate the undertaking, find the project interesting, and thought we’d share as our Fade of the Day.

A couple clear standouts jump out at you when you glance at these jeans. First of all, those draftsman pockets. These are clearly Colin’s work jeans, so he needed pockets with larger volume and easier access, hence the huge pockets with very wide mouths just under the hips. You likely noticed the built-in pencil/chalk holder in one of them, another cool detail. The other standout design element is the gusset that goes up the entire length of the leg. Gussets make pants more form fitting and easier to wear, which is always good and hey, they’ve even faded well too. All in all, a very interesting, very unique pair.
