The holidays are right around the corner, and that means friends, family, and finding the perfect gifts for all your loved ones. While there is no reason to overspend this holiday season, sometimes it’s fun to look at all the top-quality products that are available and imagine what could be. Join us as we explore some of the most extravagant gift ideas this season.
1) Canadian Sweater Company: 100% Cashmere Blanket
There is nothing better than curling up in a warm blanket during the winter. And there is no blanket better than Canadian Sweater Company’s 100% Cashmere Blanket. Each blanket is a hefty 7.5lbs of 100% cashmere: hand-spun, hand-knit, and as luxurious as it gets. It’s available in two different colorways—and given today’s topic and the fact that they’re currently 50% it’s a perfect opportunity to get one of each.
2) IWC Schaffhausen: Portugieser 150 Years Limited Edition
It’s easy to find an extravagant watch, but one of my favorite timepieces currently available is IWC Schaffausen’s Portugieser 150 Years Limited Edition. Like all other high-end watches, this one features an automatic Swiss movement, sapphire glass, quality watch strap, and fantastic construction. Remember, much of the cost of high-end watches is the precise machining and quality designs, which is certainly a highlight of IWC’s pieces.
Available for $7150 from Mr. Porter.
3) Viberg: Service Boot in Shell Cordovan
Viberg is one of the most renowned brands for casual footwear, and their Shell Cordovan Service Boots are arguably their most sought-after offerings. While their shell boots used to only be released periodically and sell out in seconds, they’ve recently begun stocking several colorways for immediate shipment. Made from Horween shell cordovan using Viberg’s traditional stitchdown construction and their popular 2030 last, these classic boots will be with you for years to come.
4) Pure Blue Japan: AI-003 Hank-Dyed Natural Indigo
I’m sure everyone who browses Heddels has their own favorite style of raw denim, but one of the most interesting pairs currently available is Pure Blue Japan’s AI-003. It’s made with an unsanforized hank-dyed denim that uses natural indigo and weighs in at 17.5oz. The irregularity of the denim texture matches wonderfully with the contrasting stitching, lambskin patch, and white leaf decorative stitching.
Available for $670 from Self Edge.
5) Nine Lives: Skin of Cthulhu Sashiko Bomber
I don’t try to hide my love of the Nine Lives…or of sashiko fabric…or of bomber jackets. So I guess what I’m saying is it’s shocking how long it’s taken me to write about Nine Lives’ Skin of Cthulhu Sashiko Bomber, but hopefully it’s been worth the wait. This bomber jacket features a deep indigo sashiko fabric that’s been heat-blackened and given a waxed finish, lined with custom Cthulhu-patterned rayon, and outfitted with beautiful YKK brass zippers.
Available for $925 from Nine Lives.
6) TURMS: Wooden Shoe Care Cabinet
Everyone with high-end shoes needs and equally high-end shoe care kit, and TURMS’ Wooden Shoe Care Cabinet is the best of the best. Available in two different colors, this asymmetric build is handmade in Italy from beech wood and features all the nooks and crannies necessary to house your favorite shoe care products. It even features a slanted top to provide you with an optimal angle for which to give your shoes the perfect mirror polish.
7) Our Legacy: Waxed Sweater in Military Linen
There are a ton of high-end sweaters out there and any one of them could have been right at home on this list, but we chose one that’s just a bit off the beaten path—Our Legacy’s Waxed Linen Military Sweater. As its name implies, this sweater is 100% linen but features a painted-on wax coating. Not only does this impart a certain amount of water resistance, but the resulting looking is unique and will only get better with wear.
Available for $445 from Blue Owl.
8) Nigel Cabourn: Hand-Painted Shearling Jacket
You’d be hard-pressed to find anything more comfortable than a shearling jacket on a frigid day, but sadly, such jackets are often overkill. Luckily for us, that only serves to make this gift that much more extravagant. Made in Scotland from only the best materials, Nigel Cabourn’s luxe version features zippered sleeves, a belted waist, a hooded collar, and large hand pockets to keep you warm through winter. And to make this jacket even more special each features a hand-painted pattern on the back.
9) House of Waterford Crystal: Wild Atlantic Way Decanter & Rock Glasses
Anyone who is a fan of fine, crystal glassware or smooth whiskies would like nothing better than to receive a gift related to this (admittedly expensive) hobby. But that’s not a problem, at least not for this list. One great choice is Waterford Crystal’s Wild Atlantic set, which features a decanter and rock glasses with engraved details meant to mimic Ireland’s western coastline. Pair this set with a top-notch Irish whiskey, such as Knappogue Castle 1951 to make this gift something that will always be remembered.
10) Charitable Donation: RIP Medical Debt
Likely the most extravagant thing money can buy right now is healthcare in the United States. It’s estimated that over 270,000 Americans declare bankruptcy every year due to medical bills. Those debts, however, don’t get wiped away. They change hands to a variety of creditors who buy them for pennies on the dollar in hopes of collecting the full amount. This is the logic behind RIP Medical Debt: they buy up that debt and simply forgive it! A donation of $100 can forgive up to $10,000 of debt, making many families’ holidays that much more reassuring.
