Belafonte Ragtime Riffs on the Classic American Varsity Jacket

Another recently discovered Japanese label which was brought to our attention by London’s Clutch Cafe, Belafonte Ragtime Clothing was established in 2012 by Noboru Tanaka from Tokyo. Following Tanaka’s vision, Belafonte creates garments he himself would want to wear, while taking inspiration from the history books. But this isn’t straight up a replica, this is a tip of the cap to vintage detailing but with a contemporary Japanese take.

In this instance, Belafonte brings us the Patch Pocket Varsity Jacket. The garment has a 90/10 (wool/nylon) outer shell, 100% polyester lining, wool knit cuffs and waistband, as well as a unique collar shape. As you might expect, Mr. Tanaka has taken the classic American sports varsity jacket and added his own individual touch, resulting in something recognizable yet unique. With a heavy melton wool outer, this is going to be the ideal companion for those late season college games, or simply strolling around campus.

Available for £595 (~$752) from Clutch Cafe.
