Ever since their inception/successful Kickstarter campaign, startup boot brand Thursday Boots has been building a solid collection of boots. (See their entry into the apparel world here.) The majority of their manufacturing is done in the historic shoe-making town of Leon, Mexico, but their newest line of made-in-USA boots is sure to get some people jazzed.

In a community of boot brands that have histories more than a century long, relative upstart, Thursday, is out there swinging with the big guys. Their new collection of Vanguard boots in varied leathers and colorways uses Horween leather and Vibram soles. So, you know, the good stuff. A particular standout in this collection is the Waxed Cacao Vanguard Boot. This boot—and all the USA-made Vanguards—are a boot lover’s dream. Mixed and matched details add up to a hard-wearing work boot with a sophisticated twist. A Cuban heel and captoe provide the class and the probably impenetrable waxed flesh leather from Horween bring the tough-guy energy that any good boot needs. The badass upper is Goodyear welted to a Vibram sole that combines two favorite styles of outsole, a Dainite heel as well as a lugged commando sole. A traditional corkbed midsole combines with an antimicrobial Poron component for shock absorption and odor control.

The Vanguard is the perfect distillation of Thursday’s boot-making goals, to painstakingly create a product that walks the line between craft and price.

Available for $265 at Thursday Boots.
