Roy and Self Edge are Back Together Again

Denim artisan and master craft jean maker Roy Slaper has made a return to the shelves at Self Edge. The Roy for Self Edge R01 Jeans are an exclusive to the store and will be available for purchase from midday on Friday 15th February.

The jeans retain some hallmarks of earlier products, with the new release being a reworked version of the popular R01. Coming in a classic straight taper, they feature a vegan patch, freehand embroidered “Roy” and size number on the pocket bag, lined rear and coin pockets, solid copper rivets, mil-spec blackened brass buttons, ‘Best Buds’ pocket illustration by Dan Cassaro and patch art by Roy. As to be expected, the jeans are completely designed, cut, printed and sewn in the Roy factory by the man himself in Oakland, California.

As incredible as all the above details are, what really makes this pair of slacks stand out is the fabric. Made of a 13.5oz. loom state denim from the late great Cone Mills, Roy designed the fabric from the ground up. Unfortunately for Roy, Cone was not able to produce the selvedge ID thread he wanted, so he had another company manufacture the single thread and shipped it to Cone for use on the denim. The warp yarns are made of conventional American cotton whilst the weft is made of Supima cotton, giving the thread an off-white cast. They come as a ‘one wash’ variant, having been carefully soaked for 20 minutes in tepid water before being hung dry. As they’re unsanforized, expect some slight shrinkage and order accordingly.

Available for $395 at Self Edge.
