Fade of the Day – Levi’s 501CT (~2.5 Years, 2 Washes)

Richard Cartwright in West London brings us a denim love story for today’s Fade of the Day. See, his pair of Levi’s 501CT have rekindled his love for jeans. Richard works as a woodworker and art technician, which makes workwear an essential element to getting his jobs done.

Wearing these jeans just about every day to work for over two years, and giving them a mere 2 washes, Richard again started appreciating denim evolution: from dark and rigid to soft and faded. I think this perfectly sums up why so many people are drawn into the world of raw denim. The jeans start out as an impersonal burden but over time are carved into an original second skin. How could you not fall in love? However, perhaps unsurprisingly,  these jeans were only the beginning. Since his pair of 501CTs, Richard has started an LVC 501 collection boasting several pairs.

Oh wait, fades? Right. I would describe the overall fading to be friendly. That’s right, friendly fades. They are mellow, show good contrast but also have some subtle, stand-out details, from the honeycombs to those stark, white whiskers.
