Although every pair of jeans that comes to my inbox is special to me, today’s installment of Fade of the Day is extra special because they are from someone I know. That’s right. It’s personal. Not a bad prologue to an action thriller about jeans right? Okay calm down, I’ll work on it.
Anyways, fellow vintage clothing slinger and collector Dan Emery from the great state of Maine is coming out of left field with a pair of RRL Straight Cut Denim done right.
To use Dan’s catchy philosophy—which I wish I’d come up with—he wears his jeans “often, without caution”. We’re talking almost two-and-a-half years “often” and every setting imaginable “without caution”. Along with his long-term commitment to wearing these jeans, he also makes sure to keep them clean-ish giving them a total of two washes and 15 garden hose soaks making sure to turn them inside out to retain as much indigo as possible.
Now about those fades. Well, in short, they are classic. When you pick up a new pair of raws, this is how you imagine them looking after many months of tough battles with the rigid fabric we all love. They are the dream, the dream that Dan is living. Their overall look is bright, worn in, in all the right places, with plenty of fading potential left in the tank. The way the whiskers transition from the upper thighs into the knees gives off a smokey, almost cloudy effect which is really eye-catching. The wallet fade gives us an idea of how light the denim can get while the darker honeycombs complement the subtler progression of the back of the jeans. So basically, these things are the denim equivalent of the mullet except the party is in the front and the business is in the back. You’re welcome for that unneeded comparison and a new hair cut idea.
Dan, you’re making me jealous with these jeans so just know I will be waiting for an update in a year or two as these undeniable continue to keep on fadin’ strong.
