Kiriko Wraps Handwoven Panama Hats with Vintage Japanese Fabrics

Just in time to shade ourselves from the relentless sun during the hottest point of the year, Kiriko’s latest is a cooling collection of straw Panama hats. Handwoven in Ecuador, and fitted with hand-braided hatbands made from vintage Japanese indigo-dyed fabrics and a leather cuff, each hat features a unique mix of Japanese and Ecuadorian style made into these one-of-a-kind pieces.

Kiriko is a believer in the principle of Mottainai, which states that everything old can be made new again, and therefore everything should be used, but these special scraps of Japanese fabric weren’t large enough to fashion garments, so Kiriko made a pivot and decided upon utilizing the fabric with headwear to everyone’s shade-inducing benefit. But again, these are each one-of-a-kind, so if you find the right one for you,  act fast.

Available from $129 at Kiriko.
