Pherrow’s Channel 1950s Sportswear With The Early Athletic Sweatshirt

Does it sometimes feel that vintage sweatshirts were just more… colorful? Well, you’re not wrong and if you want to branch away from the banal modern color options (black, grey, oatmeal), you’ll have to go back into the archives and dig up some classic stuff.

Luckily, you’re not alone in this vintage sweatshirt quest. And even more lucky for you, Pherrow’s has done the legwork here. Pherrow’s has been reproducing vintage athletic gear for some time through their Classical Sportswear line and their newest sweats pay homage to the Rugby World Cup and the imminent 2020 Olympics.

Inspired by the sportswear of the 1950s, these sweatshirts are lined with cotton fleece and the outer is made of a soft rayon/nylon blend. The two-tone hems and collars nicely complement both sweats, one of which comes in navy, the other in oatmeal. The bursts of color make both pieces more festive and set them apart from their drab modern-day counterparts. These are made start-to-finish in Japan, and are completed with a felt embroidered patch that says “1896” for some puzzling reason. Good year, maybe?

Stay warm at the next Rugby match in this fleece-y goodness! Hopefully the colors match your favorite team.
