Viberg’s Japan Collection Has Been Over 15 Years In The Making

Victoria based Viberg are one brand who have undoubtedly shaped the heritage and contemporary menswear market during the last decade. Known for exceptionally high quality product, attention to detail and traditional manufacturing techniques, Viberg have not only produced their own lines but also collaborated with some of the best.

And while the Japan Collection isn’t a collaboration, it pays homage to the brands development over the last 15 years which was largely encouraged by a conversation with Japanese parent company Nepenthes (Needles, Engineered Garments, 2West 8South) to work on an updated version of the Viberg Bobcat boot. Following this, the brand entered a new era and capitalized on the Japanese desire for work boots featuring chunky soles, roughout leathers and an industrial inspired shape.

Until this point, Viberg had only manufactured workboots for the industrial sector. The brand’s presence and success has continued to grow and the Japan Collection is a fitting tribute to this period. In addition to the footwear offering Viberg have channelled the artwork of their favorite Japanese menswear publications, which is bound to be a hit with style enthusiasts.

Standout models include the Bobcat in nubuck roughout leather, featuring stitchdown construction with a tan Vibram 2021 sole and built on the 110 last. This is the boot that started it all and is one of Viberg’s most recognizable silhouettes. Alternatively, the 245 Oxford has a distinctly Japanese flavor and was developed specifically for that market in the late 00s. Taking the form of a low cut work boot with a lace-to-toe profile, it features a wedge sole and is built on a wide last. If that wasn’t enough, enamel pins, a keychain and a locally produced t-shirt round out the collection. Here’s to another 15, Viberg.
