Jakarta based denim engineers, Sage, have been continually cranking out good jeans since 2012 and have become a staple in the bubbling Indonesian denim scene. Scarcely stocked in the western world and selling direct to consumer, it’s a brand that’s worth keeping an eye on.
With a price point to reflect this business model, you get a helluva lot of bang for your buck. Specializing in heavier weight fabrics from 14-22 oz. Sage has a strong following of denim faders who want to get the best denim evolution possible through these tough and tenacious fabrics.
Here we have the Hinokami 20 oz. Unsanforized Deep Indigo jean which uses a right-hand twill raw denim milled in Sage’s denim foundry with Japanese cotton. Featuring a red silver x blue silver selvedge ID, felled inseams with gold thread, mountain-inspired gold arcuates, raised belt loops, embossed copper rivets, the veg-tanned buffalo waist patch and embroidery on the back pocket reference the Japanese fire god, Hinokami (火の神).
Available in a slim and slim straight cut, the bumpy slub and extra deep indigo cast of the Hinokami will provide the impetus for some serious fades.
