Striped Selvedge Jeans – Five Plus One

Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.

Denim, especially selvedge denim, comes in all manner of different textures, colors, and even patterns. Today we’ll be examining vertically striped selvedge denim jeans, which are primarily available in two types: Hickory stripe and and Wabash stripe. Both of these are traditional patterns and are primarily paired with classically styled jeans, let’s have a look!

If you’re looking for a pair of fairly modern Wabash stripe jeans then look no further than Pherrow’s Lot 333. With a straight cut, fatigue style front pockets, and just belt loops to ensure a close fit, these jeans are not unlike many of more modern pairs on the market. That said, small details like the fly rivet and back pocket shape give these pants a bit of flair sourced from the 1800s.

Available for $280 from Clutch Cafe.

Plus One – Indigofera: Swearegen Pant Indigo/Root Hickory Stripe

It was difficult to pick a Plus One slot winner this week, given the uniqueness of each and every pair on this list, but Indigofera stands out in more way that one. While they feature a hickory stripe, it is a two ton indigo/root colorway that differentiates it from anything else on the market. That, combined with the s-shaped front pockets and smiley back pockets, make this pair both unique and highly wearable. If you’re only going to own one pair of striped selvedge jeans, and chances are you won’t even own one pair, then this is the obvious choice.

Available for $218 from Manready Mercantile.
