Selvedge Slub Jeans – Five Plus One

Nearly all denimheads appreciate irregularities in their denim, and one of the most popular types is slub. As we’ve discussed many times before, slub is the presence of warp yarns of inconsistent thickness. This results in a great texture in the fabric, which only gets better as fades start to set in. While there are a nearly endless number of slubby jeans, we’ve put together a selection that covers a wide range of brands, fits, and price points.

1) Momotaro: *-82 16Oz. Slub Selvedge

Momotaro’s *-82 16oz. Slub Selvedge come in a range of different fits, ensuring that there is a style for everyone. They’re all constructed from slubby, 16oz. selvedge that features Momotaro’s famous pink selvedge ID, iron buttons, copper rivets, tucked belt loops, and chainstitching at the helm and waistband. 2) Unbranded: UB*73 Slubby Selvedge


If you are looking for something on the cheaper end of the spectrum then there is no better choice than Unbranded. Their UB*73 collection features a slubby denim with a beige weft, and comes in a wide range of fits. While the construction isn’t on par with top tier denim brands, UB’s quality-to-price ratio is as good as it gets and their slubby selvedge denim is one of their most compelling offerings for most denimheads.

3) Naked and Famous: King of Slub

If you are interested in heavyweight, slubby denim then you’ve found the answer in Naked and Famous King of Slub collection. These jeans are constructed with 23oz. denim that has one of the most irregular, slubby textures on the market. Available in all of your favorite N&F fits, these jeans are a compelling choice for a whole handful of reasons. If the price isn’t prohibitive and the weight is to your liking then they’re the obvious choice.

4) The Oldblue Company: Over-Slub Selvedge


The Oldblue Company produces some unique pairs of jeans at great prices, the the Over-Slub Selvedge is a great example. Made from incredibly irregular 18oz. denim, these jeans feature copper rivets, raised belt loops, chainstitch detailing, and a zinc-alloy top button. Available in two cuts, these are the type of jeans that look great new and even better with each subsequent wear.

5) Oni: 632oniKASE 16oz. Natural Indigo Kabuki Relax Tapered


If there is one brand known for irregular denim it’s Oni, and their 630oniKASE jeans are the latest in a long string of fantastic pairs released by them. These jeans are made from a slubby, natural indigo dyed 16oz. denim, and features herringbone pocket bags and copper rivets. The pattern features a heavy taper below the new, sufficient room in the thigh, and a high enough back rise to be comfortable.

Plus One – Pure Blue Japan: AI-003 Natural Shoai Dyed Tapered Slim

If you are looking for a truly special pair of jeans then Pure Blue Japan’s AI-003’s are a great option. The fabric they are made from is incredibly slubby and irregular, and was hand-dyed with a special Shoai dye. They feature a contrasting thread, which only adds to the beautiful depth of color of the denim and adds to their uniqueness as they fade and break-in with wear.
