Winter Pajamas – Five Plus One

Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but given the current state of the world I’ve found myself extending the number of hours a day I wear my pajamas. Somehow I have amassed more pajamas than any one person should reasonably own. I realize that is not the case for most of you, which is precisely why we’ve put together a list of some of the best options out there.

1) L.L. Bean: Organic Cotton Pajama Set

L.L. Bean‘s Organic Cotton Pajama Set is a great middle of the road option if you’re looking for PJs that are just a bit more luxurious than you’re used to. These 100% cotton pajamas come with elasticated drawstring pants and a long-sleeve henley shirt with raglan sleeves, and come in a wide range of sizes and colors to ensure everyone can get a pair that they like. While a bit more modern than many others on this list, these pajamas are a solid option all around.

They’re available in a few colors and at a low enough price that you can easily pick up a pair of two to fill out your pajama rotation, regardless of how complete or incomplete it is.

Traditional Flannel Pajama Sets are something wonderful to behold, and bankruptcy be damned, J.Crew’s interpretation is incredibly well done. Made from cotton flannel in a variety of check patterns, these pajamas feature the standard flat hem, notched collar, single chest pocket, and bucket front that you’d expect from a pair of PJs. While a bit pricey for clothing that only a few people will see you in, you can’t put a price on a good night’s sleep.

Available for $99 from J. Crew.

4) Brooks Brothers: Broadcloth Pajamas

Winter-Pajamas---Five-Plus-One-4)-Brook's-Brothers-Broadcloth-Pajamas

While most winter pajamas are made from flannel that isn’t he only fabric choice. Brooks Brothers Broadcloth Pajamas are made from, you guessed it, broadcloth, which gives them a more refined look especially with the addition of the edge piping. Ever better yet, these pajamas are designed to be wrinkle resistant so you can look just as polished when you wake up in the morning as you did when you went to bed. While not the cheapest pajamas on this list the price on these is still pretty nice, and their quality should ensure they’re around for years to come.

Available for $69 from Brooks Brothers.

5) Vermont Flannel: Long Night Shirt

Pajamas sets are not the only option for a good night’s sleep, and Vermont Flannel’s Long Night Shirt, while maybe not being what you are used to wearing, are a fun option. While I can’t promise you’ll fall in love with a new style of garment it’s always fun to experiment with new cuts, especially if they were popular historically. Made in the USA from European flannel, this long shirt is a great way to up your Ebenezer Scrooge game without breaking the bank—just remember to pair it with a night cap for true authenticity.

Available for $59 from Vermont Flannel.
