Camo Shirts – Five Plus One

Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.

Camo isn’t for everyone, and oftentimes will stand out more than a solid color. But when executed well camo patterns can add some much needed visual interest to an outfit without making you appear to be going hunting. Today we look through some of the best camo shirts out there, whether you plan to layer them or wear them as an overshirt, these are some great pieces to add to your wardrobe this fall.

1) Gitman Vintage: Japanese Camouflage Oxford in Woodland

Camo-Shirts---Five-Plus-One 1) Gitman Vintage: Japanese Camouflage Oxford in Woodland

Gitman Vintage is the go to shirting brand for many of us, so it should come as no surprise that they make a great camo shirt. Their Japanese Camouflage Oxford in Woodland pattern is made in the USA from 6.5oz. Japanese broadcloth oxford fabric with a camo overdye. It features tonal stitching, chalk buttons, a single chest pocket, and a box pleat on the back; the tailored fit matched with the woodland pattern and understated colorway make this camo shirt a lot more subtle than others on the market.

Available for $215 from Division Road.

2) 3sixteen: CPO Shirt in Earth Arp Camo

3sixteen’s CPO Shirt in Earth Arp Camo features one of the most unique patterns on this list. The fabric is hand-loomed in Khadi, India, and then dyed using wood-blocks which results in slight irregularities between garments. The shirt itself features a classic, CPO pattern with two front pockets and replica BDU buttons. Available in two colorways, the overdyed variant is quite subtle while the non-overdyed variant offers some pop to any outfit.

Available for $240 from Self Edge.

3) Filson: Field Flannel Shirt

If there is one combination we don’t see enough of it’s flannel and camo, but luckily Filson has us covered this season with their Field Flannel Shirt. It features a bright, earthy camo pattern, and while I’m not sure where it would help you blend in it will certainly help your outfit stand out wherever you go. It’s made from 100% cotton flannel and has two front chest pockets, making this an excellent option for an overshirt if that’s what you are in the need of.

Available for $125 from End Clothing.

4) L.L. Bean x Todd Snyder: Chamois Shirt in Olive Maine Camo

Camo-Shirts---Five-Plus-One-4)-L.L.-Bean-x-Todd-Snyder-Chamois-Shirt-in-Olive-Maine-Camo

L.L. Bean and Todd Snyder are two brands we all know, so it’s great to seem them come together to create this Chamois Shirt in Olive Maine Camo. It’s made from what is surely an incredibly soft flannel making it a great base layer, but the heavyweight 7.5oz. fabric and elbow patches help make this a great piece of outerwear. This shirt is cut slim, and features a flapped collar closure to help you on those colder days. Oh and did we mention it’s covered in snowshoes and fishing rods?

Available for $139 from L.L. Bean.

5) Rogue Territory: Jumper Shirt in Olive Camo

Camo-Shirts---Five-Plus-One-5)-Rogue-Territory-Jumper-Shirt-in-Olive-Camo

Rogue Territory’s Jumper Shirt is a fan favorite, and it looks phenomenal in their Olive Camo pattern. The green on green colorway is as subtle as they come when it comes to camo, and features two chest pockets (one interior, one exterior) for storing whatever you need. These made in Los Angeles shirts are finished with pearl buttons—a detail you wouldn’t expect to see on a camo shirt, although it works quite well.

Available for $220 from Rogue Territory.

Plus One –  Sid Mashburn: Camouflage-Print Waxed-Cotton Overshirt

Camo-Shirts---Five-Plus-One-Plus-One-– -Sid-Mashburn-Camouflage-Print-Waxed-Cotton-Overshirt

While I prefer a shirt that I can wear as both a base layer or jacket, Sid Mashburn’s Camouflage-Print Waxed-Cotton Overshirt was far too special to overlook. The pattern is erratic yet smooth, almost as if painted in watercolors. However, the waxed finish gives this shirt water resistance that all others on this list lack; this shirt is finished with two chest pockets and two flapped front pockets. While certainly an expensive piece, this is your standard camo shirt.

Available for $595 from Mr. Porter.
