Waxed Jackets – Five Plus One

Five Plus One is our weekly series of buyer’s guides. We pick a specific category and dig up five great options along with one that’s a little outside the norm.

If you want to pair your raw jeans with outerwear that will age just as gracefully without going full Canadian tuxedo, the answer is obvious: a Waxed Jacket. They come in a range of styles from reinterpretations of classic pieces to modern track jackets, and everything in between. Whether you are looking for a new jacket for the remainder of the cold season or want something lighter for the coming Spring, we hope you find what you’re looking for on this list.

1) 3sixteen: Waxed Stadium Jacket

I like leather and wool outerwear as much as the next guy, but 3sixteen’s choice to go with and 8Oz. waxed canvas for their Stadium Jacket was brilliant. Featuring ribbing at the next, cuffs, hem, and hand pockets, this jacket offers great textural contrast between the main body and all of these accent points. It’s finished with a quilted lining and YKK gunmetal zipper, making for one hell of a compelling purchase.

Available for $330 from Franklin & Poe.

2) Rogue Territory: Waxed Canvas Supply Jacket

Rogue Territory is a great brand if you find yourself sucked well into the denim hobby but don’t want to spend a fortune. Their Waxed Canvas Supply Jacket is a great, mid-length jacket featuring a 10oz. waxed canvas exterior, nickel buttons on the chest and cuffs, and a slew of pockets. With no lining this jacket is sure to break in extremely well and lead to a phenomenal patina over time.

Available for $310 from Redcast Heritage.

3) Joe and Co: Dalton Fully Lined Waxed Cagoule

If you are looking for a waxed jacket that’s more focused on water resistance, then Joe & Co’s Dalton Fully Lined Waxed Cagoule should definitely be on your list. Made from an ~10.4oz. waxed cotton fabric, this pull-over jacket has a quarter-button neck, Union Jacket full lining, drawstring hem and hood, and natural corozo nut buttons. Available in both navy and electric blue colorways, this jacket is both unique and easy to fit into a wide range of wardrobes.

Available for £320 from Joe & Co.

4) Knickerbocker: Waxed Zip Work Jacket

Waxed-Jackets---Five-Plus-One-4)-Knickerbocker-Waxed-Zip-Work-Jacket

Knickerbocker’s Waxed Zip Work Jacket is a clean, minimalist waxed jacket for those looking for something a bit more understated. Made from British Millerain waxed cotton, this jacket’s pattern is as simple as they come with two hand pockets, a two-way YKK zipper, and tonal buttons at the cuffs. If you’re looking to add a slightly water resistant jacket to your business casual wardrobe then I don’t think you’ll find a better option.

Available for $350 from Knickerbocker.

5) Ginew: Wax Rider Coat with Facing East Lining

Waxed-Jackets---Five-Plus-One-5)-Ginew-Wax-Rider-Coat-with-Facing-East-Lining

Ginew’s Wax Rider Coat with Facing East Lining is a great modification of the classic type III trucker where Ginew took inspiration from the motorcycle jackets of the 1950s/1960s. Featuring a 10oz. waxed duck exterior and 32oz. 82%/18% wool/cotton blanket fabric lining, this made in the USA jacket is one of the heaviest ones on this list. If you want water resistance, warmth, and style to spare, then this jacket is definitely worth consideration. It comes in a range of different colorways, with the most bold, orange version pictured.

Available for $618-635 from Ginew.

Plus One – Dehen 1920: N-1 Deck Jacket in 7Oz. Martexin Waxed Sailcloth

Waxed-Jackets---Five-Plus-One-Plus-One---Dehen-1920-N-1-Deck-Jacket-in-7Oz.-Martexin-Waxed-Sailcloth

Taking classic garments and styling them to near perfection, Dehen 1920 shows their prowess in their N-1 Deck Jacket. Featuring a 7oz. waxed sailcloth exterior, mouton lining and collar, hidden wool cuffs, and two-way brass zipper with button flap closure, no detail was overlooked when designing this piece. While the price isn’t something everyone can afford (or stomach), and we’d never want anyone overextending themself for something as ultimately unimportant as a jacket, it’s impossible to not appreciate all that Dehen 1920 did here.

Available for $1,295 from Division Road.
