KUON’s Pale Patchwork Shirt Might Be The Shirt Of The Summer

Summer isn’t the only thing dropping the heat this season. KUON, a brand that has been simultaneously challenging, recontextualizing, and redefining the idea of vintage clothing since its inception in 2016 has just dropped an absolute banger of a shirt, and quite frankly, I’m getting a tad overwhelmed. Alas, I’ll do my best to muddle through because you’re going to want to hear about this one.

Constructed in Japan from a lightweight and summer-friendly cotton poplin, designers Arata Fujiwara and Shinichiro Ishibashi have introduced their SS22 Patchwork shirt in a standout print sure to get heads turning. Designed in the style of a traditional Hawaiian or Aloha shirt, a staple garment in KUON’s drop last season, this open-collar, single chest pocket shirt features an intricate patchwork design reminiscent of traditional Japanese boro, a term derived from boroboro, meaning ‘tattered’ or ‘repaired’. Mixing this ancient Japanese craft with a more contemporary array of cotton poplin is the kind of genius we’ve come to expect from Kuon.

The fit is relaxed and the drape is loose, making this the perfect shirt to chuck on with your favorite pair of straight-cut denim and beat-up loafers.
