Learn To Fly In Buzz Rickson’s USAFA Cadets Academy Coat

We have the privilege of being exposed to so many different types of garments here at Heddels. From classic reproductions of vintage sportswear to contemporary takes on tried and tested military staples. However, I can hand-on-heart say that I have never seen anything like Buzz Rickson’s Cadet Academy Coat before.

Issued to cadets in the United States Air Force Academy in the 1960s and 70s, this lesser-seen piece of military outerwear is the kind of piece that makes us thankful for reproduction brands like Buzz Rickson’s. This repro is constructed in Japan from a mega 30 oz. Melton wool, the Cadets Academy coat features a robust brass zipper fastener up front, two slanted front pockets, and a robust hood with its own zipping mechanism that can be unzipped and laid flat, just in case you fancy an elongated, shoulder pad-esque collar. Almost like some sort of Japanese vintage-repro-obsessed Sith Lord.

As well as the functional hood, this piece is finished with applique felt USAFA 73 design and heavy duty rubbed cuffs that are weighty enough to handle that gargantuan melton wool fabric.
