Benzak Turned Leftover Fabric Into Pillowcases

The good people over at Benzak Denim Developers are set to end the year on a very sustainable and extremely family-oriented high. Allow me to elaborate.

Not long after the development of their AW22 collection, the team realized they had a surplus of the Japanese blanket fabric that featured in said collection, and they didn’t want to waste it. Taking into account the incredibly soft hand feel and distinct design of the fabric, pillowcases become the obvious way to repurpose it. The results are wonderful.

Now you might know that Benzak was founded by Lennaert Nijgh and that his brother joined shortly afterward, but did you know that their mother is a trained upholsterer? Who better to take the lead on this project and make their pillow dreams come true, with the assistance of their sister, a fashion design student, keeping it well and truly in the family.

The lack of denim in the brand’s first-ever pillow offering was proving to be too much of a miss, so luckily for BDD, another roll of surplus fabric surfaced in the form of the Tiger Selvedge denim from 2019 which was just enough to ensure this cypher was complete and lounge-fades were obtainable.

The Blanket Fabric and Denim pillows are now available for pre-order, and will be until Friday January 6th 2023. Deliveries are expected the week after.
